“After being born, I am naturally parasitic, living in the mouths of humans most of the time. I am familiar with the vibrations of their tongues and vocal cords, and my body is filled with sorrow. But because of this, I can lead everyone to release their sadness.” — translation of an excerpt from After All These Years,.

F. P., Contemporary Phenomenon of Messages III, 2021. Sampled from works of Jacques-Louis David (1748–1825), The Death of Socrates and Apollo and Diana Attacking the Children of Niobe

In his work After All These Years,., Chao-Ming Teng, artist and head of Giloo Documentary Media, personifies the Taiwanese ballad Rainy Night Flowers. Through unveiling the song’s personality and life experiences, he presents a first-person narrative that reflects the shifting tides of time and the evolving journey of the song itself.

Chao-Ming Teng’s artistic approach frequently engages with history, narrative structures, systems of interaction, and elements of chance and unpredictability—highlighting the challenges of constructing subjectivity. In this seminar, he shared insights from his decade-long creative practice, demonstrating the “reproducible methods” that consistently appear throughout his works. These methods act as tools for embodying his creative principles, enabling him to deconstruct and reassemble existing systems, thereby opening up new ways of seeing, understanding, and interpreting the world.
