FEAT. MUTUAL FRIENDS

October 5, 2022

Terminated Event*1

As part of the TPaddassoc 2022 Summer Internship, this lecture presents the experiences and reflections of four interns, who share insights gained from observing and participating in design team operations. Their discussions explore management models, interdisciplinary collaboration, creative ideation, and social responsibility. Through their perspectives, this session aims to inspire design newcomers by expanding their understanding of the industry and encouraging diverse career paths.

The interns will present their outcomes and personal growth from the internship programme, providing a unique glimpse into the philosophies, methodologies, and practices of four different design teams. Their reflections shed light on the current state of design education and the issues students from Taiwanese design departments care about, as well as their visions for the future. This lecture offers a roadmap of the diverse possibilities within the industry for young designers preparing to enter the workforce.

Chang Yu-Hung: Project and Time Management in Creative Teams

Chang Yu-Hung, who has plans to establish his own design studio, interned with Amphibious Design and Sanshi, gaining insights into systematic operations and team structures. His clear goals enabled him to observe management layers and team frameworks in detail. In this talk, he will explore ideal team formats and workflow optimisation, offering potential directions for team-oriented design practitioners.

Hsiao Chia-Yun: Fostering Design Thinking Through Interdisciplinary Experiences

Hsiao Chia-Yun believes design work should transcend discussions limited to design itself. By embracing opportunities for cross-departmental learning in a team culture that values mutual growth, designers can cultivate empathy and multidimensional thinking. She will share her experiences in exhibition design practices and dynamic collaborations with graphic design, reflecting on how these shaped her thought processes and broadened her perspectives.

Lin Pao-Hsiang: Design as a Component of Social Progress

Lin Pao-Hsiang distilled the contradictions and uncertainties faced by students entering the industry into a clearer professional ethos. Critiquing the rigid processes of academic education, he examines the significance of each stage of the design workflow. Drawing on his experiences at White Radiation and Kick in Design, he will share strategies for client interaction and reflect on how design defines its role and responsibility within society.

Chang Yu-Chen: Training in Creative Logic and Ideation

Chang Yu-Chen’s creative ideas stem from everyday life. Observing how people’s gestures reflect their mental states, she reinterprets the relationship between design and people, applying these insights to her work in writing and graphic design. In her talk, she will summarise her conclusions from reading, consulting mentors, and iterative reflections, offering strategies for ideation and logical thinking that do not rely solely on inspiration.
