Future Notes V: Emerging Trends
FEAT. MUTUAL FRIENDS
November 20, 2022
The Future Notes Lecture Series features young design and art creators sharing their journey from graduation to early professional practice. Each lecture highlights emerging trends in the design field through the perspectives of three rising designers and their invited collaborators. This session examines practices in exhibition-driven visual spaces, commercial branding, and 3D animation technology.
Yang Shun-Chih: Curatorial Thinking in Graphic Design
Yang’s internship at a curatorial company during his studies sparked his interest in exploring the relationship between visuals, materials, and curatorial spaces. By adopting a curatorial approach, he seeks to apply visual design within spatial environments, breaking traditional graphic communication norms. Beyond graphic design itself, Yang extends his concepts through material choices and constructs his visual work with a three-dimensional perspective. He will present six projects, spanning from student works to freelance commissions, illustrating how curatorial logic has shaped his design practice. These projects demonstrate his integration of spatial and material considerations into bookbinding and graphic design.
Hu Tai-Yuan: Charting Design Pathways Through Taiwanese and American Branding
After graduating, Hu devoted himself to brand design, engaging with numerous branding projects over a year. These experiences allowed him to accumulate an understanding of contemporary brand demands. Hu will share his practical experiences in Taiwan and the United States, reflecting on the fast-paced and diverse commercial environment. What shifts are occurring in the rhythm and forms of brand development? Conversely, how should commercially driven design firms adapt their strategies and practices? His insights aim to clarify the evolving dynamics of brand design in today’s market.
Li Ming-Hsueh: Pioneering Trends with Front-End Technology
Specialising in Unreal Engine, Li excels in creating high-quality XR visuals, animated imagery, and character animations. His deep understanding of scene rendering and environmental detail enables him to produce sophisticated outputs efficiently. Unreal Engine’s real-time rendering capabilities significantly reduce the computational time traditionally required in 3D production, allowing creators to synchronise with their work and improve both efficiency and quality. Li will share the production processes behind three animation projects and discuss how emerging technologies are transforming the animation field.
