OVERLOOK

Paintings Portraying Noise and Sound

January 25, 2022

“It's as if within chaos, something is about to grow.” Liu Yu's︎︎︎ works always give us such associations. Most of her actual kinetic energy comes from the experience of noise music, documenting the situations the music leads her to. The experience of visiting temples and shrines in Taiwan when she was a child has unfolded the use of extreme colors in her works. The grandeur and transcendence of religion may also be displayed in a certain way in the vast and colorful worlds she creates, making people feel small and in reverence of mystery.

Within Liu Yu’s works, she pursues a mental state of concentration, fixation, and tranquility, exploring the unchanging core that runs through the transformation of form and style. Many details can be seen in the textures of these paintings, presenting new possibilities for the integration of digital and traditional art.
